Russia's Viktoria Komova is more determined than ever at having a long successful career.
The Russian gymnast has suffered from a series of injuries and illness in the past three years which put her career on hold. In a moment of weakness, Komova felt that her career has already came to an end and that she must move on and find a job but her mother urged her to stay in the sport.
Viktoria said that in those three difficult years, she has changed as person. Physically,
she has grown taller and have put on weight. She was 150 cm at the time of the London Olympic games, now she is 162 cm.
The 20 year old gymnast had her comeback debut in Baku, where she won gold with her team. She is now eager to make her success at the competition the first of many to come.
"I have to show everyone that Viktoria Komova is an active competing gymnast, she is training and getting ready to recover her position" Komova told Championat in an interview translated by Rewritingrussiangymnastics.
" I do not plan not to be selected to Rio. By the way, I have not even thought about this possibility once."
Komova who was the favorite to win the all around gold at London Olympics, burst into tears when she failed to outscore US Gabby Douglas in the competition's last rotation.
"At that time I was unhappy. ... Three years later, it seems to me that this was a good result that I should be proud of."
Komova said in a previous interview that although not everything in Baku turned right, she is satisfied she made her return to international competition.
