RUSSIAN'S MOST SUCCESSFUL GYMNAST
Tweet Aliya Mustafina, a Russian elite gymnast aka the Russians queen. Mustafina who have been training with her long term coach, Alexander Alexandrov have recently switched to a personal coach, one of Russia’s best coaches, Sergei Starkin and from all indication she is comfortable and happy with the new coach.
Aliya’s gymnastics career have really been a successful one starting with worlds 2010
where she won an individual allround gold medal with the help of her yurchenko vault to the recent bronze medal on beam and floors at the recent worlds 2014.
Having followed Aliya’s career closely, I have found out one thing that really works for her, grace and favour. Its beyond the talent and the training but somehow she manages to find herself at the podium even when she does not have enough difficulties. Things just work on her favour.
Let’s take a look at the London Olympics event finals where she tied with Italy’s Vanessa Ferrari on floors. I have watched the video several times and from my angle, I think Ferrari deserved that medal. Well, this is where grace comes in.
Another example is the all-round finals at London Olympics where she took the bronze again from Aly Raisman. To me and some gymnastics fan we still think that that was unfair as Aly Raisman deserved better.
Let’s take another look at 2014 worlds where she tied the third position again with USA Mckyla skinner and took home the bronze. Skinner had more difficulty but Mustafina had beautiful turns and leaps but had just 3 passes which didn’t have much difficulty.
I have noticed that Mustafina is always the judge’s favorite for reasons best known to them. She also took home the balance beam bronze medal at last year’s worlds after a costly mistake in her routine. Like I do tell people, everybody has different levels of grace at different points of their lives; I think Mustifina’s grace is abundant in artistic gymnastics.
Now, come to think of it, it seems this lady is the queen of third place. Most times her third place on the podium is as a result of luck and favour. Well, since the judges are human, I guess they mustn’t be accurate all the times. Sometimes one have to be favoured over another. This beautiful young lady has good execution scores, she tends to break the ties to her favour.
Mustafina is one of the lucky gymnasts who have not suffered career threatening injury. Things seem to go well for her both at trainings and at competitions. Probably it may remain that way for a very long time but with the evolution of new gymnast like: USA Simone Biles, Bailie Key and comebacks of Aly Raisman , Gabby Douglas and her team mate Victoria Kamova, it might be difficult to maintain that luck.
Finally I know that posterity have his way of bringing this young woman on top of the podium because as it stands she is one of the most hard working gymnast in the world and she would give or take anything to be at the top. That’s just what separates her from everyone else in her country.
