HOW TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN GYMNASTICS
Tweet In this article, am going to take you through how to be a successful gymnast. Are you nursing the idea of being a gymnast? Have you already started the journey? Do you dream to be a world champion or an Olympian? Hopefully this article will answer most of your questions.
Firstly and honestly, being successful in gymnastics has a lot to do with age. If you are 12 or 16 and want to be an Olympian, my advice for you is to work hard to be a competitive gymnast or possibly make it to college gymnastics because most Elite members started gymnastics at the early age of 5 and 7.
To be successful gymnast, there are a few things you need to know about.
* Flexibility
* Strength
* Training
* Coaching
* Mental Strength
* Talent
* Finance
* Flexibility: to be successful in gymnastics, flexibility matters a lot. Flexibility is the beauty of gymnastics and must be shown in every single event. The judges must see that grace in you. Most times, excellent flexibility starts from a very young age when your muscles are still very much free. Training flexibility should be a daily task, at home, in the gym or at your privacy. Flexibility is one of gymnastics requirement that you can actually achieve yourself without the help of a coach. So. Start now to work on your flexibility.
* Strength: gymnastics has a lot to do with tumbling and your ability to be a great tumbler lies in your over all body strength. You should work on both your upper body and your lower body. Having a lot of strength comes from your daily strength workout. Most successful gymnasts you see today were not originally the strongest ones but they worked day and night to achieve their level of strength.
* Training is a watch word in gymnastics. You have to train at least 3 to 4 every week, 5 to 7 hours per day and you can get to train more as you advance in the sports. Aly Raisman is successful today because of her hard work in training and Gabby Douglas trained every day except on Sundays prior to her Olympic victory.
* Coaching. You have to choose a good coach with a good reputation. You should make inquiries of what their training programs look like. You should also know if the coach has produced champions in the past or is capable of doing so. Also choosing a gym next to you is also important but you should focus more on the coaches and their programs than the proximity of the gym. If you have to move away to be coached by the best, then take that step. Gabby Douglas and many athletes in Chow’s gym at Iowa moved away from their homes to pursue their careers.
* Mental strength is the ability to focus and stay on the game. There are times when gymnastics can be very frustrating and you feel like quitting, but remember that quitters never win. There are some events in gymnastics like the balance beam where your mental skill comes into play. Balance beam is more of a mental game, the ability to trust your landings and stay focus. Although sometimes, mental strength gets better with age but the earlier the better because this is what separates winners from contenders.
* Talent: before you think of gymnastics, you should have convinced yourself that you can be good at it or people around you should have noticed some basic talent in you like; flexibility. Excess energy etc. Talent is not everything in gymnastics. Training is.
Finance: if you wish to get serious in gymnastics, you need to get a good gym with quality coaches, good leotards, good bandages, bar grips and tiger paws ( if necessary) and all the necessary accessories needed
