HOW TO DO A BACK HANDSPRING
Tweet A back handspring is a advanced skill is an intoduction to aerobic gymnastics skills. If you want to learn a BHS, I assume you
can comfortably do a back walkover. Although some people can skip the back walkover but its advisible to learn the basics especially in level system competions.
REQUIREMENTS: handstands, backbend, split and possibly a kick over/ back walkover.
STEP 1: Start with a straight body with your hands straight up or infront of you.
STEP 2: Starting on a near sitting position, swing your hands backwards and straight upwards.
STEP 3: Now, jump upwards and backwards. (remember to fix your Hands on your hands while jumping upside down)
STEP 4: Aim for a complete hanstand position
STEP 5: Snap down with your both legs.
STEP 5: Finsh in a nice lounge position.
Drills. Lots of press ups
Handstand snap down ( you can use the wall for support.
Straight jumps
NB: learning a back back handspring is quite tasking but fufiling when learnt. Also note that it takes a lot of practice to learn the skill. Just be patient and consistent in your training. Once you can put up a decent BHS, you can connect as much as you want.
Lastly, find a spotter or use a well padded floor or padded mats to practice. Injuries can be very frustrating.
