Rebecaa Andrade Suffers an An ACL Tear- Brasil's Most Promising Gymnas
Tweet Brasil's Rebecca Andrade who has just turned senior this year, has been ruled out of the 2015 World championships and Pan American Games.
According to globoesporte, the Brazilian gymnast has ruptured her right anterior cruciate ligament and will need to undergo a surgery. She will need at least eight months of recovery.
"Rebecca will need to undergo a surgery. She had this injury last week, is already in São Paulo, doing physiotherapy, and will undergo the surgery on Thursday with doctor Caio D'Elia, knee specialist of my team. The damage is the same as Sergio Sasaki's. Recovery will be the same. We want her to return to training in six months and to return to competition in eight months" said Breno Schor, MD Olympic Committee of Brazil (COB), the GloboEsporte.com.
Rebecca is one of the most promising gymnasts of this quad. She dazzled the gymnastics community when a video of her performing an Amanar hit the Internet in 2013 and also when she performed a not yet in CoP, full and a half twisting double back tuck, on floor last month. In order for a gymnast to have a skill named after her, she will have to either debut it at Worlds or Olympic games. Since Andrade will not be competing at this year's Worlds, she will have to make the Olympic team so she can have the skill named after her.
Last year, Rebecca withdrew from the Youth Olympic Games due a foot injury and was replaced by Flavia Saraiva who won gold on floor exercise and silver in the all around and on balance beam at the competition.
The Pan American Games will be held in Toronto between 10 and 26 July, while the World championships will be held from 23 October - 1 November 2015
