Australian National Team member Lauren Mitchell
has withdrawn from the upcoming 2015 World Universiade due to a serious
knee injury that occured during a training session yesterday (June
29th),
according to Gymnastics Australia. Furthermore, AU News reported that the
23-year-old was working on her floor routine when she sustained a
ruptured ACL.
Mitchell had been suffering from ankle problems and just
recently committed to training for her third Olympics in Rio.
The Australian women’s team was set to depart today
for the Summer Universiade to be held in Gwangju Korea from July 3-14.
The other members include Georgia-Rose Brown, Emma Nedov and Mary-Anne
Monckton, along with coach Tracey Penaluna.
Mitchell already has a long list of accomplishments
from her successful career, as the 2010 World Champion on floor and 2009
World Championships silver medalist on beam and floor. She is the first
female Australian gymnast to ever win a gold at Worlds.
